PIXTON: A Comic-strip to promote healthy eating habits.

PIXTON: A COMIC-STRIP ABOUT HEALTHY EATING CHOICES.
Having in mind the Day of the Book, creative students were encouraged to make a comic-strip story based on one of the topics studied this year. A couple of students in Bachillerato incredibly fond of comics showed their interest in creating a story with the aim of promoting healthy eating habits. They created with Pixton a story thinking of innovative and humorous story about a restaurant which promotes healthy eating choices in a straight manner.
When they exposed the story to their classmates, we all had so much fun with the jokes written. They did a great job researching. This Pixton Project was exposed with the class beam.
Thanks to this course, I am determined to promote this website and resource to exploit my students’ imagination as much as possible from now on.

Genially: A way to review Reported Speech

Genially for 1st Bachillerato Science students

Some students of my science group in Bachillerato have shown a great deal of interest towards innovative ways of making oral presentations. Most of them use Powerpoint, some others a great one called Prezi, with impressive results. Having in mind my personal formative course and their interests, I encouraged them to use Genially in order top ut into practice and review the main features of Reported Speech. Thus, this would help them review and refresh their previous knowledge.
Here I attach some of the captures of the presentation they conducted the week before Holy Week. I was impressed to see how well they managed to do so.

Edpuzzle: How is your mobile phone changing you?

Click here:  EDPUZZLE :How is your mobile phone changing you?

This EdPuzzle is intended for 1st year Bachillerato groups.
Students are asked to work in pairs and watch the clip. After answering the questions and comparing the results with the rest of the group, a debate shall be encouraged to raise awareness about the use of the mobile phone.

The final task is to create a campaign about the rational use of cell phones and  in our daily lives by creating posters in the Highschool Hall and in the corridors.

Timetoast: The Life and Works of Edgar Allan Poe

CLICK HERE: TIMETOAST: EDGAR ALLAN POE

3rd CSE Students were asked to read a collection of tales and narrative poems by Edgar Allan Poe.
Having in mind the celebration of The Day of the Book, after having read, they were supposed to work in groups preparing a synopsis, moral and relevance of the story selected. Then, they had to make an oral presentation about their choice with the aid of a poster attaching a hand-made picture illustrating that particular work.
Timetoast has been of great help as it appealed the attention of students showing a great deal of motivation towards the task.
From now on, I shall personally use this resource to illustrate my literature lessons.

The aim of reading in L2 focused in Secondary Education.

The aim of reading in L2 focused in Secondary Education.

“ Language is the chore capacity which basically defines human beings”. This quote by Noam Chomsky (1965) states the importance of language and makes us reflect on how its teaching and learning should be implemented. Our role as MFL teachers plays a key role nowadays not by nurturing our students with knowledge but mainly in an effective and productive use of language in all its aspects and skills.  The benefits of reading in L2 are widely known: learning of new structures, vocabulary, expressions and, mainly, an extensive field of potential cultural knowledge at the disposal of students.
Having in mind the Day of the Book, my students are reading a collection of tales and short stories of different genre and time. Students are encouraged to find its current relevance and the moral of each story to be applied in our times. Once they have reflected and discussed on the various topics and morals, they carry out different projects to be exposed. Depending on the level, they carry out projects dealing with oral expositions mixed up with posters, comic-strips or even creative Prezi presentations.
Apart from this celebration, students are inspired to read by their own and they are welcome to step by the English Department to borrow any book they like from the Department’s collection. Once they read it, they write an essay which will be rewarded in their final mark. Our role to promote reading is essential due to the fact that a kid/ student who takes the reading habit, he/she will become an adult who thinks by himself having a critical mind
